DAVID BRALEY: BUILDER (Football)


• Was born in Montreal in 1941 and moved to Hamilton in 1943

• Attended Westdale High School, where his interests included hockey, track and field, rowing, football and basketball. He received a post-secondary education at McMaster University

• BC Lions owner since 1997

• Currently Toronto Argonauts owner

• Former owner of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 1989 to 1992 rescuing the team from near extinction

• Has also served as the chair of the CFL’s Board of Governors and the CFL's interim commissioner from March 2002 to November 2002.

• Began his business career with the General Motors Acceptance Corporation in Hamilton, before advancing on to London Life Insurance. In 1969, he acquired William Orlick Limited, which subsequently became Orlick Industries Limited, a leading auto parts manufacturer

• Inducted into the Hamilton Gallery of Distinction in 1998

• Received an Honorary Doctorate from McMaster University in 2000 in recognition of his contributions to the city of Hamilton

• Was also the founding chairman of Hamilton Entertainment and Convention Facilities Inc., which includes the Hamilton Convention Centre, Hamilton Place and Copps Coliseum

• In April 2004, David was awarded the United Trophy Manufacturing Ltd. Sport Volunteer of the Year Award

• In 2007 was inducted into the McMaster University Sports Hall of Fame as a Builder and was also awarded the 2007 Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association Appreciation Award for outstanding philanthropic and community service to the business community.

• Has provided his expertise to the business community while serving as a leader on a number of committees and events including the World Cycling Championships and 2015 Pan Am Games

• A philanthropist who has donated millions of dollars to Hamilton area education, sporting, health care and entertainment causes
