A former Westdale and HCI rower, Al’s career has gone to dizzying heights. After winning the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta for Leander in 1966, he represented Canada at the 1976 Olympics and three world championships. He has coached at seven Olympics and has 27 World and Olympic medals as coach. The 1999 FISA International Rowing Federation Coach of the Year, a member of seven Halls of Fame including the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, Al won two national championships in 19 years as head coach at the University of Victoria and captured many other honours in 16 years as Head Women’s Rowing Coach at the University of Western Ontario.
