Bill Sturrup was the man on the microphone at nearly every sporting event in Hamilton for 40 years.

His intertest in reporting sports started at Delta High School and when he forged his outstanding career at CHML Radio, he was host of a weekly high school sports report.

But Sturrup was the voice of most Hamilton sports, not only reporting on the action, but serving as public address announcer for a variety of teams, including the Canadian Football League’s Tiger-Cats, junior hockey’s Hamilton Red Wings, Fincups, Dukes and Kilty B’s, as well as the professional Canucks and Bulldogs of the American Hockey League. Sturrup He was also in the PA booth of the Intercounty Baseball League’s Cardinals, the New York-Penn League’s Redbirds, the World Basketball League’s Skyhawks and McMaster University’s football and basketball teams.

Sturrup served for many years on the executive of the CANUSA Games, including a couple of terms as president.

He also served on the executive of the Burlington International Games and countless other sports events and provincial championships hosted in Hamilton.

He was a founding executive member of the Golden Horseshoe Athlete of the Year Award and served several years as President.

Sturrup was a noted news reporter throughout his radio days as well and was very close to the Police Department and its Crimestoppers Programme.
