It was 1924 when ‘Pops’ invented new and better hockey goaltender pads, modeled from cricket pads. The handcrafted leg guards became so popular only the professionals and top senior and Junior ‘A‘ netminders had a chance at getting their hands on one of the 300 pairs turned out each year. Legends named Sawchuk, Worsley, Hall, Lumley, Broda, Bower and Hextall were just some of the goalies who wore the Kenesky custom brand, which even rode on the Hindenburg for a special delivery. ‘Pops’ was still working eight hours a day at his store’s Barton and Wellington location when he was 86.
